This Valentine’s Day, be better prepared with a healthy and kissable mouth! Whether you’re going on a romantic date or eating out with friends and family...here are some dental tips to consider:
- Let’s start with the basics- chocolate. Did you know that Americans spend over 300 million dollars on Valentine treats each year and about 8 billion candy hearts are sold in the first two weeks of February? Amazing! We all have naturally occuring bacteria in our mouths which, when comes into contact with the sugar in chocolate and candy, creates acid. The acid attacks your teeth which then leads to tooth decay. Tooth decay can lead to cavities, or destruction of the outer layer of enamel followed by the inner layer of dentin underneath the enamel that leads to the tooth nerve chamber. Sounds terrible right? Brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes (dentist recommended) and cleaning between your teeth, can help you achieve cleaner kisses and a cavity-free smile.
